The Committee was delighted with the response, now all the Questionnaires have been collected and the Data entered on to a computer record. The Data is currently being analysed and a first report prepared for internal discussion. When that has been checked for accuracy a consultation version will be prepared for public discussion later this year. A brief summary is available on Bramley Update.

This will take place on Monday 1st of March in the Village Hall at 8.00pm. Representatives of all Village Clubs and Associations (Which includes all Religious groups) are invited to come and display the benefits of membership! Though obviously this is aimed at the newcomers to the village, all existing residents are cordially invited to attend, to learn a little more about the village and meet old friends!

At our last meeting the Societies actions on recent applications were discussed. It was made clear that the Society is NOT a 'Statutory Consultee' but that by co-operation with the Parish Council we have access to the Plans and like any individual or group we can make a submission to Waverley Planners. We do not expect to comment upon the compliance of the application with Planning Law - this we leave to the Officers - but we do make comments on what we as a Society feel is the suitability of the Application to the Village as a whole which may differ from the opinion of the neighbours!

The Society wishes to congratulate the Parish Council for its news letter which this month covers the problems of Pot Holes and the intentions of the local Traders to be better prepared for Snow in the future by buying appropriate equipment financially supported by Waverley and Bramley Parish Councils, as well as many other topics! Anybody who is on email can get a copy by registering with the Parish Council.- email bramleyupdate@googlemail.com

Saturday 5th September, 12 Noon till 2.00pm at Bramley Village School, by kind permission of the Governors and Headmistress.

Some 60 plus Villagers came and enjoyed a classic 'Ploughman's'  with Bramley Cider or soft drinks.

The Dedication of the Tree planted in memory of Jane Bedford took place during the afternoon. This was also be the first opportunity for the public to look at the Questionnaire, currently planned to be circulated, in late September, to ALL residents and workers in the 'Secular Parish'. From the answers to which, the basis of the 'Parish Plan', will be formulated.

CALOR VILLAGE OF THE YEAR

Bramley took part in the ‘Calor Village of the Year Competition, which is a National Competition sponsored by the eponymous ‘bottled gas’ company and administered in Surrey by ‘Surrey Community Action’
In July we were visited by three Judges for just 2 Hours, who were taken for a short walk around the Village and then given a short informational talk by several representatives, followed by a Question and Answer session based upon the Dossier sent to them earlier, the Poster Displays, the above information and any general questions they had.

On Saturday July 25th we were entertained by Hambledon, last years winners. where we were due to be welcomed by Geoff Marlow, Chairman of Surrey County Council who was unfortunately delayed by traffic and had to suffer some ribald remarks about SCC management of the Road System in Surrey.

We were given an explanation by Jason Whitwell, a senior executive of Calor Advertising Division, as to why Calor ‘Sponsored’ this competition and the basis of the Judging.

The Results were then announced by the ‘Surrey Community Action’ representative.

The four Category winners were -:

Communities – Chobham

Communication – Headley

Business – Brockham

Sustainability – Bramley

The Plaques and Cheques for £200, were then presented, followed by an acceptance speech by the relevant Village Representatives, in Bramley’s case Phil Scattergood. He took the opportunity to thank the Sponsors, the Organisers, the Judges and Hambledon for hosting the event, whilst summarising a brief history of Bramley Village over the last 39 years.

The Runner – up was Chobham  and the overall winner this year was Ewhurst.

Hambledon, last years winner had gone forward to the National Competition and though finding it an interesting and enjoyable exercise had not won.  All the representatives, Judges and Guests were then entertained to a delicious tea and encouraged to wander around last years winning village.

Representatives of the Village, under the auspices of, but independent of the Parish Council, have been discussing such a proposal. The Steering Committee has discussed the best way to gather opinions and is producing as the first step, a 'Survey'  for all Households and places of Employment in Bramley. The proposal is to deliver and collect these in late September/Early October and then later in the Autumn to publish the results as a discussion document for further consultation.  Please complete the survey - we do wish to get your opinions and suggestions for the future of Bramley.

Waverley Core Strategy

DUNSFOLD PLANNING APPLICATION

As you probably already know Waverley turned down this application and the appeal was completed earlier this year. It is currently being considered by the Planning Inspector and the Government and an answer is expected in September 2009. Full details of the  opposing statements are now available on the Councils website at www.waverley.gov.uk

Farewell to the Whitelaws

On Sunday evening the 28th of June, members of the BVS, the Fete, the History Society and others, joined the BVS Chairman in the garden of Summerpool House, over a glass of wine, to say farewell and thank you to Ian and Gilly Whitelaw, who have been involved in so many ways with the Social Life of the Village. They are retiring to the West Country where we are sure they will be an asset to Village Life.

Des Parker in presenting them with a  Commemorative Plate by a local sculptor, thanked them for all their efforts over the past decades, indicated how sorely they will be missed and wished them well in their retirement.

Bequest from Mrs Higginson

The Committee of the BVS were informed at the monthly meeting of the receipt of a bequest from the late Mrs Higginson, which they agreed to retain, under the terms of the Constitution, for a suitable project in the future.
